Zen Retreat Waiver of Liability
By booking a stay at Shōganji Zen Retreat and choosing to stay at Shōganji Zen Retreat you agree to and consent to the following:
RETREATS, RETREAT CENTRES, and RETREAT BOOKINGS:
as BOOKING AGENT: Pierre Black acting as booking agent for retreat centres: For retreats at which Pierre Black is not physically present, Pierre Black is only responsible for the booking itself, and is not responsible in any way for eventualities, risks, or damages incurred during the retreat itself.
RETREAT DEPOSIT PAYMENTS (down-payments on retreat stays) are completely non-refundable under any circumstance, at any time, for any reason, and represent a fee to effect the booking itself and nothing more. As a courtesy, deposits may be transferrable to different retreat dates, different retreat centres or events also booked or operated by Pierre Black, or to different guests; however these are solely actionable at our discretion and convenience and when the desired transfer is reasonable and available. Retreat deposit payments are non-refundable even in the case that the retreat center or retreat provider(s) fail for any reason to provide retreat services on the agreed upon dates. We do our best to effect convenient re-booking or deposit transfer to a different retreat or guest should such a case arise.
PIERRE BLACK HOSTED RETREATS: Pierre Black hosting a retreat directly or co-hosting a retreat in person: By booking a stay at any retreat event or residential retreat center affiliated with Pierre Black and PierreBlack.com you agree to and consent to the following: Participation is voluntary at any at all times. You may out-out of any activity at any time or depart of the retreat entirely if at any time you feel that retreat activities are not to your liking or involve any unreasonable risk. You are aware that participating in the event may involve potentially strenuous or risky physical activities such as yoga, cycling, physical work, work with tools, hiking, swimming, other leisure or sporting activities, and including possible contact with wildlife and unpredictable natural settings. You are also aware that there my be intensive meditation practice and that participants in such practices may experience unusual psychological, physical and/or spiritual states of body and mind arising from the meditation and associated retreat activities. You choose to participate in these activities with the full knowledge of the potential risks involved, and hereby agree to accept any and all risks of harm that may result from these activities. In choosing to participate in retreat activities you agree that to release the retreat centre, Pierre Black, and any employees, volunteers, or associates from all actions, claims or demands at any time for injury or damages resulting from your participation in this retreat event, except when an employee or contractor of retreat exhibits gross negligence or intentionally acts in a manner likely to lead to my being harmed.

Voluntary Participation
I acknowledge that I have voluntarily requested to participate in the Shōganji Zen Retreat centre (zenretreat.com), located at 269 Shūki, Ōita-shi, Ōita-ken,
879-2115, JAPAN.
Assumption of Risk
I am aware that participating in the event may involve strenuous physical activities such as yoga, physical work, as well as risks associated with hiking and swimming, including contact with wildlife. I am also aware that this is an intensive meditation retreat and that the participants in such retreats may experience unusual psychological, physical and/or spiritual states of body and mind arising from the meditation and associated retreat activities. I am participating in these activities with the full knowledge of the potential risks involved, and hereby agree to accept any and all risks of harm that may result from these activities.
Release
As consideration for being permitted by the Zen Retreat Centre or one of its affiliates to participate in these activities and use their facilities, I hereby agree that I, my assignees, heirs, distributees, guardians, and legal representatives will not make a claim against, sue or attach the property of Zen Retreat, its affliliates, employees or volunteers or any of its affliliated organizations for injury or damage resulting from acts, howsoever caused, by any employee or contractor of Zen Retreat as a result of my participation at the centre, except when an employee or contractor of Zen Retreat exhibits gross negligence or intentionally acts in a manner likely to lead to my being harmed. I hereby release the Zen Retreat Centre from all actions, claims or demands that I, my assignees, heirs, distributees, guardians, and legal representatives now have or may hereafter have for injury or damages resulting from my participation in this event, except when an employee or contractor of Zen Retreat Centre exhibits gross negligence or intentionally acts in a manner likely to lead to my being harmed.
Knowing and Voluntary Execution
I have carefully read this agreement and fully understand its contents. I am aware that this is a release of liability and a contract between myself and the Zen Retreat Centre and/ or its affliliated organizations, and agree to it of my own free will.
By booking a stay at Shōganji Zen Retreat and choosing to stay at Shōganji Zen Retreat you agree to and consent to the preceding waiver of liability statement.
